One of my favourite weekend rituals is walking through the city's antique market. Portobello Road always tops my list, not just due to its colourful chaos but also for the variety of items available. There's everything, from mid-century homeware to enamel kitchen tins, as well as classic vinyl records that are still full of life. I've lost track of how many times I've left with "just one small present" and it's turned into a bag of treasures.

I love going to Shoreditch or Islington for something more carefully curated. There are boutique vintage shops in these neighborhoods that specialize in particular times. For instance there's a shop that specializes in 1940s fashion and another one that focuses on the 1970s in lighting. It's a shopping experience where you're chatting to the shop owner for half an hour about the history of a lamp or the history of a leather satchel.
